MATTHEW G. GAUTHIER joined the firm as an Associate Attorney in November 2016.  Mr. Gauthier was named a Partner in October 2020.

Mr. Gauthier is a lifelong Michigan resident – attending undergraduate and law school in Michigan.  After law-school graduation, Mr. Gauthier practiced for nearly five years at a prominent Metro-Detroit plaintiff’s firm.  He received extensive trial and appellate experience early on in his career.  Mr. Gauthier served as an adjunct law professor at Thomas M. Cooley Law School from 2012 through 2014.

At Moffett, Sims & Gauthier, P.C., Mr. Gauthier handles a diverse practice area on behalf of insurance carriers, insureds, and self-insured corporations.  A majority of his practice is devoted to personal-injury defense.  Mr. Gauthier litigates the following cases: first-party PIP, first party Uninsured- and Underinsured-Motorist benefits, third-party auto negligence, premises liability, general negligence dog-bite claims, and asbestos litigation. 

Mr. Gauthier serves as coverage counsel for insurance carriers to prosecute and defend Declaratory Actions.  Mr. Gauthier litigates a wide variety of commercial-litigation cases, which includes property damage, property disputes, environmental damage, construction litigation, and business litigation. 

Mr. Gauthier has obtained numerous dismissals in his career on high-exposure cases against his clients: he is a results-driven lawyer who works hard to obtain good results on his clients’ behalves.  Mr. Gauthier has been named as a Super Lawyers Rising Star in 2018 and 2020 through 2023.

Mr. Gauthier holds a third-degree black belt in Sanchin-Ryu Karate; he has led a Sanchin-Ryu class in Troy, Michigan since 2008 as a volunteer.  Mr. Gauthier also enjoys going to and watching sporting events, traveling with his wife, exercising, brewing beer, and home-improvement projects.
