FOUNDER & MANAGING PARTNER

STEPHEN T. MOFFETT established the firm in 1985 in Birmingham, Michigan, focusing initially on defending personal injury and product liability matters.  Since then, Steve has guided the firm in extending its range of litigated matters and to national recognition.
Born in 1955 in Saginaw, Michigan, Steve attended Grand Blanc High School, captaining the school debate team, winning many state events and receiving numerous individual honors. After graduating from Michigan State University in 1977, Steve attended Mercer University School of Law in Macon, Georgia, earning his J.D. in 1980.

Steve began his career as a trial lawyer specializing in product liability defense. Shortly thereafter, he received the AV Preeminent lawyer rating of 5 out of 5 from Martindale-Hubbell and continues to maintain that status today.

Steve has appeared numerous times before the Michigan Court of Appeals, successfully arguing many cases, resulting in favorable decisions impacting businesses throughout the state.

As a result of an active and successful trial career, in 1997 a major manufacturer of consumer goods sought out and retained Mr. Moffett to serve as National Trial Counsel defending multiple product lines. As National Counsel, he is responsible for coordinating the defense of his clients in complex and catastrophic cases and works closely with local defense lawyers throughout the US and Canada.

Steve has tried nearly 100 jury trials, many of which included claims for catastrophic personal injury and death, in both federal and state courts throughout the country. He has also successfully represented clients in matters pending before the Consumers Product Safety Commission.

Steve is an active member of the State Bar of Michigan, Oakland County Bar Association and Product Liability Advisory Council (PLAC).   He has spoken at seminars for the Defense Research Institute (DRI) on matters involving the coordination of defense in catastrophic product liability cases.

Steve is an avid outdoorsman, enjoying golf, skiing, sailing and hiking throughout our National Parks.
